JQL is Jira’s advanced search language. Instead of clicking through filters, you write a query that tells Jira exactly which work items you want to see — across projects, assignees, statuses, dates, labels, and more. It’s especially handy when you’re hunting for “all bugs in progress assigned to my team” or building saved filters for boards, dashboards, and reports. Once you get the hang of a few fields and operators (plus ORDER BY), JQL becomes the fastest way to slice Jira data and spot what needs attention.
