What is 'Epic'?
Definition
An epic is a large body of work that’s too big to finish in a single sprint, so it gets broken into smaller pieces (often user stories). Epics help teams keep a bigger goal in view—like “improve onboarding”—while still delivering progress in manageable increments. In Atlassian’s agile guidance, epics sit above stories in the hierarchy, making it easier to track how day-to-day work ladders up to meaningful outcomes.
