About Test Execution
A Test Execution is a Jira work item that groups the executions of your Test Cases. It shows the progress of testing and has a status of its own.
What a Test Execution contains
A Test Execution holds Test Case Executions (TCEs). ATM creates them from the Test Cases you select for the Test Execution, one for each Test Case.
A Test Case Execution is ATMβs own object, not a Jira work item. Testers run it and set its status. See Run Test Execution.
You can add Test Cases to an existing Test Execution. See Create Test Execution.
You can run the same Test Plan many times. Each run is a separate Test Execution. See Test Plans.

Progress and status
A Test Execution shows two things:
- The progress of testing, based on the statuses of its Test Case Executions. The ATM TE Progress field shows the percentage of Test Case Executions in a final status. For the full rule, see How progress is calculated.
- The status of the Test Execution itself. The ATM TE Status field holds it, with values from a predefined list. See ATM in Jira.
Work with a Test Execution
A typical test run has these stages:
- Create a Test Execution and add Test Cases to it. See Create Test Execution.
- Assign the Test Case Executions to testers and filter them in the table. See Run Test Execution.
- Run the steps of each Test Case Execution and set their statuses. See Test Steps Execution.
- Report the problems you find as defects. See Defects.
- To run a Test Case again, create a new iteration. See Retests.
